The saltwater Banggai Cardinal fish comes from a small area in Indonesia and may be added to the endangered species list because of the fishing practices in that area of the world.  If you are purchasing a Banggai Cardinal be sure that you are purchasing breeder stock instead of wild caught.

Banggai Cardinals have black and silver bands with white polka dots and can grow up to 3 inches long.  One popular trait of the Banggai is that they are mouth brooders which means they incubate the eggs in the mouth.  Another cool trait, the babies are carried in the mouth by the male who continues to care for the young once they have hatched.  The Banggai also makes an excellent addition to a saltwater tank because it does not bother expensive coral and is not an aggressive fish.  They are known to be hardy and eat well.  A Banggai's diet consists of live brine shrimp or frozen blood worms.  They are a tropical fish and require water temperatures around 78 - 80 degrees.
