English Bulldogs Pet Rating System: 1= Lowest 5 = Highest
Overall Rating:
Our Rating: The English Bulldog has gained in popularity in recent years, moving into the top 10 most popular breeds. Their easy going temperament and friendly nature make them a good choice for families. Bulldogs are known for their loyalty to their family members and are good with kids. We particularly love their personalities. Our information is meant to provide "non-technical" information since breed standards are widely available on the internet. You can find breed standard and additional information at our links provided at the bottom of this page. Bulldogs are considered "clowns" mainly for their clumsy appearance but don't let this fool you, they also really love to entertain. A Bulldog's endearing qualities are the attachment they have to their family members and their playful nature. We highly recommend this breed for all types of families. Since Bulldogs are sociable dogs, we do not recommend they be in an environment where they do not receive attention. They should participate in all family activities. This breed is ideal for smaller homes and apartment living but do require some exercise taking care not to get overheated. Don't let a Bulldog's smaller size of about 50 lbs fool you, they pack loads of personality into that beefed up frame. These dogs are not couch potatoes...they love to play and participate in family activities. Because of a Bulldogs strong personality, this breed should receive training at a young age. Often times, their cute behavior is not as cute as they get older and they can become out of hand. Be sure to find a trainer that specializes in Bulldogs with their specific needs. Bulldogs can have genetic defects due to improper breeding. Be sure to research your breeder and their breeding history carefully. This breed is known to have demodectic mange and other skin problems related to the skin folds, as well as, cherry eye (or eversion of the eyelid), breathing problems related to their facial structure, and an intolerance to exercise and heat. Pay particular attention to your Bulldogs skin and eye care. For more info on Bulldogs see the links below: http://www.akc.org/breeds/bulldog/index.cfm http://www.bulldoginformation.com/index.html
