JACK RUSSELL TERRIER Pet Rating System: 1= Lowest 5 = Highest
Overall Rating:
Our Rating: A JRT's number one trait is their high level of activity and personality. We gave them a low rating for activity because if you do not lead an active lifestyle and can not keep a JRT entertained this is not the dog for you. A JRT is very intelligent and must have something to do or can get into trouble. As for a family dog...they are well known for their fun loving antics and being a child friendly breed. Their size makes them the perfect dog for any size home and yard. However, if you have a small yard, this breed requires frequent walks and exercise. Owner Review: Jack Russell Terriers are fun loving energetic dogs that keep you laughing with their antics and clownish ways. My Jack amazes me everyday with his long term memory and reasoning abilities. He absolutely LOVES attention and will do just about anything to get it. A good example is when he wants to play he hits you with his toy of choice and squeaks it if it makes noise. He's also a great cuddler, and loves to sit in our laps. Jack Russell Terriers are excellent hunters and true to form, Jack will rid my house of any unwanted pests; even when I point them out say "get it!". After having the privilege of owning this special little Terrier, I can not see myself having any other breed! A Happy Jack Russell Terrier Owner, Darla Check out Rooz Pictures and a link to the JRO
Breed Information The Jack Russell Terriers' history was started by a man named Reverend John Russell and was widely known as Parson Jack. He started this breed with a small white Fox Terrier female named "Trump". Trump was the beginning for the breed known as Jack Russell Terriers. They were specifically breed for hunting requiring soundness, stamina, spirit, intelligence, and comformationally able to handle trails, tunnels, and dens to flush out game. Jack Russell Terriers can have three different hair types for this breed. They are the smooth coat, the broken coat and a slightly wire-hair texture. Their coat should be at least 51% white. Jack Russell Terriers come in two sizes at 10-12 inches or 12-15 inches. The body of a Jack Russell Terrier should be in proportion to its height and should be compact, well balanced and athletic in appearance. The tail is usually docked at birth to 4 inches and should be carried high and proudly. Their feet are usually small, well padded and should point straight, not out. Their ears are folded and close to the head. Many people are leaning towards ears that are pricked or sticking up slightly. These dogs are full of energy! They fit perfectly into a very active lifestyle. They should be an inside dog because they are very social and require lots of time and attention. JRT's also need to have access to a big yard to burn off excess energy. Since they were breed to be hunters, they love to chase balls and go for a long run. They are also great at keeping pests away. Because JRT's are a hunting breed always supervise time with other pets such as cats, hamsters, and other small animals. If you have kids....the more the better. Jack Russell Terriers love children and are considered safe with all ages if raised with the children from puppyhood and trained properly. Always supervise children under the age of 6 years old around dogs. They are fun loving and will entertain you with their intelligence and antics. Jack Russell Terriers have become increasingly popular due to their fame on recent T.V. shows and movies such as Frasier, Disney's Wishbone, Jim Carey's Mask, and My Dog Skip. As with any breed you choose, be sure to investigate the breeder carefully, ask lots of questions and give your new puppy lots of love and attention.
