Parrotlets Pet Rating System: 1= Lowest 5 = Highest

CUTE AND FUN! Parrotlets, also known as "pocket parrots", are often compared to their larger cousins, the Amazon, because of their small size, beautiful coloring, playful temperament, and talking ability. The similarity to their larger cousins stops there. The biggest and best differences between larger parrots and parrotlets is that parrotlets lack the ability to scream and make loud noises like Macaws, Amazons and Cockatoos, parrotlets will not destroy your household furniture like larger parrots, and parrotlets are much less expensive. This makes them a perfect pet for an apartment or condo, first time bird owners and older children. Because parrotlets are capable of bonding, if you would like your parrotlet to bond to you, we recommend not keeping two together. The most popular parrotlet is the Pacific Parrotlet (pictured above). Their coloring is similar to their larger cousins, the Amazon, with their bright emerald green mixed with blue. The parrotlet is easy to sex because the males generally have brighter blue coloring on their wings and rumps. Female parrotlets lack the blue coloring on their wings. When purchasing a parrotlet, keep in mind that young parrotlets have a pinkish color to their nostrils. The lifespan of a parrotlet is 15-20 years. Keeping parrots is lifetime commitment.
